I was bottling on Friday and ran out of dextrose. Instead of using 5oz dextrose, I ended up using 2oz dextrose and 3oz maltodextrin. Only now did I realize that maltodextrin is not fermentable.

I do have some carbtabs on hand. It says 3 tabs equates to about 1/2 cup of corn sugar in 5 gallons.

What would you do?

1. Leave it alone.
2. Open up the bottles, drop in 1 tab, and recap.
3. Open up the bottles, drop in 2 tabs, and recap.

It's tough to convert weights and volumes, but assuming 5oz is about 3/4 of a cup....

That means that 1/2 cup is equivalent to 3.33 ounces of dextrose, and thus each carbtab in the bottle is apparently worth a bit more than an ounce of dextrose in the bottling bucket.

To get back where you intended, you'd need to add three carbtabs.

There are a lot of assumptions in there though, so it's tough to say. I'd probably just put in two.

Nah...it'll be fine.

Yeah, I'm thinking it will, but I was hoping to enter this into a homebrew competition. Now, I don't think it'll carbonate in time.

I'll probably take a 6-pack and drop 3 carbtabs into each of those for experimentation purposes.
