So...don't ask how I got here...don't judge.

I have an approximately 1.7" hole where I wanted to put my element.
I'm looking at all my options. Do I:
#1 - abandon that hold and plug it or try to use for another purpose
#2 - Find a welder or try to silver solder a bung in - something like this http://www.stainlessbrewing.com/Weld-spudbung_p_143.html . Will that fill up my hole anyway?
#3 - Do something like this http://www.stainlessbrewing.com/Hex-Bushing_p_14.html I'd need to make my hole even bigger to accept the 1.5" MPT.

Concerns about #2 and 3...I'm reading about thread types. I'm not sure the element will thread correctly into the FPT...as it's a different thread type.

#1 - I have a few options here. I had planned on using this (15 gallon Spike) for my boil pot, but I just scored a sanke. The sanke is the same volume and might have a better geometry for boil-off. I could use this pot for my HLT. The "bad" hole is pretty low. I guess I could use a bushing like in #3 and use that for one of the ports for my HERMS coil....and mount the element between the herms coils.

Thoughts? Remember...no judging :)

Sorry man, but it looks like you'll need a welder to seal up the hole or use the bung. If the element won't fit into the bushing, you have no choice. No judgement, that sounds like something I would do.

You might be able to use something like this with the 2" TC option:

I'd recommend contacting them and seeing what they have for your situation.

The above would also cover the element housing and connection to the pot. Not sure what you were planning there.

I used this solder on TC flange for my build (I think it was option 3, 3b is that 2" flange). It was easy, for the 1.5" flange, the hole could be up to 1 5/8" wide, I would guess your hole would be within the tolerance for the 2"version...

Doh! I did the same thing and sealed it with a stainless conduit plug along with a high temp gasket. It was about $20 through Grainger.
