My racking cane has a bunch of scratches. Will this be a breading ground for infections or should stop I being paranoid and just use it?

If you just scratched it and can use it one time then toss it I'd just do that. Buy a new one though so you don't ruin a batch due to nasties that got caught up in there. They're not that expensive and it's worth not ruining a batch of brew!

It's definitely worth the $10 investment to have the peace of mind that you're not going to infect $50+ batches of beer.

I recently replaced my scratched cane with a stainless steel one. This one will never scratch and isn't that much more expensive than the plastic ones.
