This is my first time brewing and I used some starter tea to make a SCOBY from scratch. The SCOBY had started to form nicely after a few days, but I moved the jar too much and now the SCOBY has sunk a little. It is sitting about an inch below the surface. It is quite thin, about 1/16th of an inch thick, although it has managed to form a translucent disc the full diameter of the jar.

Will it be okay, or does it have to be at the surface? Should I be trying to float it to the surface, or just leave it, or do I need to start again? I've not had any bubbles. Also, there is a cloud of yeast about an inch thick on the bottom of the jar. It's been a week in total since I started.

What should I do now?

Thanks,
Paul.

It should be ok. Sometimes ours squirms out of my hands like a floppy fish and dives for the deep end. Eventually it finds its way back to the surface.
