Two fridays ago (10 days ago) I started my first batch of Kombucha with a scoby from a friend. I let it in black tea and a week after I saw this black spot (second picture) and today (2 days later, third picture) i saw its kinda dissapearing. I’ve being reading about the colors in the scoby and this black spot doesn’t seem to be good. I dont know if its mold but it doesn’t look fuzzy and it has the same texture from the normal Scoby. I haven’t check the ph but I tried a little sip of it and it taste like apple vinegar.

Did I do something wrong? I wash like 3 times the glass in my washer but I did not sanitized it. And I also let the glass fermenting in my pantry with the lid you can see in the first picture. Should I cover it with a cheese cloth? Maybe something got trough the grommet?

Should I throw it out?

One last question. On Friday I made a new tea but I haven’t start the fermentation yet (this glass was sanitized) I let it covered with a lid untill today. Can I use it to start a new scoby with an unpasteurized kombucha?

I think your ok to continue with this batch. The scoby forms with help from air so I cover mine with an old Boy Scout neckerchief or hanky and rubber band. I would not use brewed tea that is old, not sure where I would draw the line but I don't go more then the time it takes to cool.
