sankey fermentor w/ compression fitting

Been thinking about fermenting in a 1/2 barrel sanke and wanted to throw this idea out there for putting a fitting on the opening. It's basically like a homemade cfc fitting but on top of sanke

How about a ss tee with a compression fitting which has a 5/8 od tube through it and 1/4 flare fitting on the perpendicular side for gas? Not sure what I'd put on the end of the tube: corny liquid port, barb, or flared fitting. The main reason I came up with this is to be able to pull the tube up or down to rack without hitting trub. Also not sure if it would hold enough pressure for transfer, but i'm positive it would hold enough to start a siphon tho.

OR, just cram a large universal bung into the opening where the valve was (not the one for the Better Bottles, the other large universal) and jam an airlock in the bunghole... I do that for my sanke fermenters presently. Once I've moved and ferment at home again, I'll be using my sanke keg fermenter kit (with thermowell)...

You can also fit it with one of the orange carboy caps if you wish. The middle port on that will take a standard airlock. You can either cap the other opening, or use it for a blow-off tube. I actually have 5/16" barb fittings on mine, so that I can connect a CO2 line to it for racking. I slide a stainless steel racking cane instead of an airlock in, and push the brew out with a few PSI. It goes into keg via the liquid post. :rockin:

Cleaner set up, but it's more expensive than buying a 2" to 1/2" mpt tri-clamp, 1/2" tee and compression fitting. Does the compression fitting hold c02 pressure on those?

Compression fittings can hold more pressure than the Sanke can.
