I called an old buddy of mine i used to work with and mentioned my new home brew hobby, he makes his own wine but he had a keg laying around that wasn't much use to him so he gave me a sanke keg. I thought it was a corny keg by the way he described it but i just want to hear y'alls thoughts on the sanke keg and maybe compare/contrast the major differences between those 2 styles of kegs. Also i have never kegged before so some tips and and good advice would be beneficial.
 
To keep it relatively straight forward, for your purposes, the differences are two fold.

1. It will require a different coupler to push beer out of a sanke keg.

2. Accessing the sanke to add beer or clean it will most likely require that you remove the spear. This isn't difficult, but it is not as easy as popping the lid on a corny. It's possible to clean sankes with the spear in place, but it requires utilizing a method with enough pressure to clean through the spear.

There may be a few points I am forgetting, but that is the long/short of it.
 
As mentioned above cleaning a sanke style keg is `more involved` than cleaning a corny keg.

I wouldn't get rid of the thing just because it's not easy to clean ATM
As you get more and more involved in kegging you might find that you want to put beer in a sankey style keg for compatability with `non-homebrewers` keg set-ups. Or you might want to ferment in the keg itself in a `closed loop system` that completely eliminates the chance for infection/oxidation during racking. As for 1 style being better than the other is an entirely subjective opinion based on what each individual case would be using said kegs for.
Both are good imho but cornys imho are more user friendly for people just starting out with kegging.
