A belgian I made has been in the primary for 3 weeks. Fermentation was fantastic. I added the belgian candy after 4 days of initial bubbling had wained. It picked right back up after the sugar addition. For the past week there has been no activity but the lid is bent upward on the fermenter, no bubbles.
Is it ok to take the lid off and take a reading? If I press down on the lid, bubbles come flying out of the blow off tube.
I'd like to move this to a secondary but I don't want to open the lid with that pressure if it could have some odd effect.

Thanks in advance

Just opening the lid won't hurt anything or let anything important to the beer get away. Just make sure anything that goes into the bucket is sanitized and don't splash the beer around.

+1

No harm in opening the lid to take a reading, just make sure your hydrometer is well sanitized.

Just opening the lid to check will not hurt if you sanitize well.

However, if the lid is still bulging I would probably wait a while before checking it. Belgian yeast can take their time to finish.

Thanks. The lid is still bulging. If I press on it the bubbles fly out but the lid will bulge within a few hours. I'll let it sit a couple more days.
