Just used S-04 for a Red Ale and I noticed there is some sulfur notes in the nose. I haven't used this in some time has anyone else experienced this?

Also, tasted it today and it had a little tartness to the flavor, strange!

S04 is a favourite, but never got sulphur.

What is your water like? Could it be a 'Burton snatch' from the water?

Calcium (Ca+2) 33.0
Magnesium (Mg+2) 20
Bicarbonate (HCO3-) 150
Sodium (Na+) 4.5
Chloride (Cl-) 12
Sulfate (SO4-2) 7

I cut filtered tap with 1/2 RO. Wanted it to be malt foreword so I didn't mess with the Sulfate and Chloride levels.

Smelled it this morning and sulfur seems to be less prominent.

that's more precise than I expected! I was thinking you'd go 'hard water, so maybe. Or could just be one of those fermentations'!

My water is stupidly soft, so that could be why I never sense sulphur with S04. All conjecture though, unless someone who knows about water chips in...
