So why is it everyone (vendors) show the Rubbermaid orange water cooler. Is it really the better or can they just get it cheaper. I am just making my first mash tun, for my switch to all grain, but I think Igloo keeps water cooler longer, I do realize we want the water hot. So whats your vote on this

Read some good things about braid, and its cheaper..But was thinking false bottom.

if you're doing batch sparges just go with the braid, it's what I used for a while. fly-sparging really requires the grain bed to drain evenly across the bottom with minimal channelling.

I never got fly sparging working with any level of efficiency until I switched to a false bottom in the cooler.

Then I got sick of fly sparging and just went back to batch sparging and put the braid back on lol. It was just an easier brew day and I didn't see any eff. gain in fly sparging with a FB in the cooler. Just an added PITA for me. YMMV.

Just bought one of these today, the 5 gallon version worked great. Will try the 10 this weekend. Converted it in 10 minutes using bargainfittings.com parts plus a stainless valve I had. You can't beat $45.

I have the Home Depot Rubbermaid because it was $39.97 at the time with a hurricane coming. (water storage) I then added a Northern Brewer cooler valve kit with a 3/4 inch water heater braid. It works very well!

Igloo, rubbermaid. coleman....they all work. If you plan on batch sparging, I vote for the simplicity of a braid. Just about any cooler that is appropriatly sized and well preheated will maintain mash temps...JMO

Cost. Braid for batch spagre works great. You can find the braid at Mc Masters. We also got a small SS spring to put inside the braid to keep it from crushing. Take it out and clean after every batch. We were amazed after a few batches when we decided to take out and clean. We boiled it and it was a little gross even though we has washed it in place quite a bit (we thought
