Late Sunday night I received a text message informing me one of my 12th grade students was involved in an accident and was airlifted to the trauma center in Atlanta; the prognosis wasn't good, but we were hopeful. Then on Monday news came that he had been declared brain dead and that there were only a few more tests the were going to do to verify his condition. Last night they pulled him off the respirator and he died forty minutes later.

This whole week has been hell. Simple things like taking attendance and updating grades have been constant reminders, not to mention the grief etched on every student's face for six periods a day.

I don't generally drink my sorrows away, but I definitely know why a good many people do. I believe I'd prefer a little numbness about now.

Thanks for reading & letting me get some of that off my chest.

I'm sorry to hear that man, it's awful when a life is cut short too early. I'm also not an advocate to get away from problems, but sometimes a few just help take that edge off.

We see way to much of that in this area. I have 2 teenage sons and we have dealt with it on a personal level as well so I can some what feel your pain. All I can say is just hang in there for the other kids in your class...

Hang in there bud and know that we are thinking about you and your students!

I've had a rough week as well... Last Thursday my grandfather passed, but not so suddenly (leukemia), and on Friday my girlfriend was forced to put her 12 year old Jack Russel to sleep due to stomach cancer (expected for about 2 weeks). We are pushing through on this side and things are getting better, but I am glad we at least had some warning, unlike you and your sudden loss. I'll be thinking about you, your family, and students and hope you can do the same for me!

Take care and share in a drink with me...
