A medieval abbey that's home to a community of Belgian monks has been badly damaged by fire.

The abbey in Rochefort, in southern Belgium, is famous for the strong beer brewed there by the Trappist monks.

Though the blaze has destroyed much of the building's timber structure, the monks say at least their beer escaped.

BBC News story.

This sucks! This is one of the Abby i wanted to visit on my Belgium beer tour.

Least no monks or beer was damaged.

Thanks for link, and video.
For C's sakes, they're MONKS, shouldn't they be using candles when the power goes out, not those unsafe, newfangled power generators.

I thought that too. They have been using torches and candles in it for centuries yet burned it down with a faulty generator.
