Hi all-

Thinking about trying an experiment out on my system and wanted to get some input/advice if anyone has tried something crazy like this:

So I currently run a three tier gravity fed system. I don't have much luck with clarifying the wort via Vorlauf-looking to buy a pump to attach to the mash tun (20 gallon cooler) and run the "out" end to a sparge arm. Obviously the concern with this would be heat loss. However, my current mash tun holds temp really well and was thinking I could wrap the hosing with insulation and seal any connection points. Kind of hard to explain but there would in theory only be about 8 inches of tubing plus the pump recirculating wort outside the cooler.

High level-has anyone wrapped high temp tubing with insulation tape and had any major drops in temp?

Thanks!

I would say go ahead and try it.
It will still loose some heat due to the rapid evaporation at the surface when the wort returns to the cooler. But if it looses more than you are comfortable with you can always add inexpensive heat tape under the insulation later down the road.
