Hi guys,

For some reason rice hulls aren't avaliable from local homebrew shops. Fortunately I found two companies processing rice in my country. What do you think if I buy some rice hulls directly from them? Is it ready to brew?

As much as I know the rice cleaning happens before removing the hulls, so theoretically it should be OK.

thanks

Make a rice hull tea to see if they contribute any flavor.

Some people rinse them with water in a strainer to remove the finer particles.

I think the rice hull tea is a very good idea. No matter what you do you will need to rinse the hulls before you use them. If you buy them from a LHBS or anybody else makes no difference. Rinse first, when you do it will become obviouse as to why and will also soak the huls to avoid having them eat up your wort whe you do use them.
