I don't expect anyone to spend a lot of time spelling this kind of stuff out so all I'm asking for is a good resource. I'm looking for a resource in which I can study to learn the different aspects of DME, LME, and the different types of grains for steeping. I want to be able to eventually build my own recipes but in order to do that, I feel like I need to know more about the different characteristics of grains and the extracts. Like what colors, flavors, and aromas each imparts on the beer. Anyone know of a good resource for that kind of stuff or is it all experience? (For right now, I'm just focusing on extract brewing, not all grain).

If you go to Briess' website, there are analytical charts that spell out the more scientifical side of what you may be looking for. Great resource for learning more of the science behind it...if that's what you're into.

Hope it helps!
