Alright guys, thought I might post this question here and see if anybody has a good solution.

When we purchase canola oil we buy large 1.25 gallon bottles of it. We have several empty bottles laying around and I think they would make excellent all-around grain or bulk food storage containers.

The problem is that while they are empty there is still a substantial oil residue inside them. Does anyone know of a good way to get these clean and dry and ready for use?

Straight soap and water doesn't seem to cut it.

Thanks for the ideas.

Ha.

I cut mine into scoops for grain. Dust is the only way I have found to pull the oil residue out. So, stick them in dirt for a while and then clean them with soap. Oil gone.

Alcohol could work as well. Such as 95% rubbing alcohol.

The dust fact is neat concept as well.

Have you tried hot (but not at meltable temp) water + soap?

I wonder if Oxyclean or some other brewery cleaner would work on it?
