Removing 1/2 full keg from fridge

I am limited for space in my fridge and want to take out a 1/2 full keg for another one, leaving the already tapped keg in the garage. It will get warm and fridge it again in a few weeks.

Am I asking for trouble with shelf life since I have cracked the keg does it need to remain chilled?

Assuming you were using CO2 to move the beer and not a hand pump, you should be fine. Just make sure the keg you're taking out is still under pressure so it stays sealed and you can leave it at room temp for a while. Some of the CO2 will come out of solution at the warmer temp so after you transfer it back to the fridge you'll have to give it a bit to reabsorb the CO2 in the headspace. Also, if your garage is pretty warm (higher than 75 degrees or so), you may want to toss the keg into a closet or some place out of the way in the house.

Nope, I do this all the time. If I am tired of a certain beer, I take it out and put it in the closet and put in another one. When I go back to the old ones, they are always fine with no detectable taste change. I've left them out for 3-4 weeks before putting them back in. I store the old one at around 70 which is my basement temp.
