I suspect it will kill connectivity to both clients, so you may have to reinstall both.

Yes that was the site where I got the "sudo apt remove connectd" command for stretch.

I tried to recreate the connecting to the wrong RPi3 again but this time Remot3 went to the proper one. So I don't know why I saw the wrong Fermentrack come up the first time. Perhaps it was a cache on my phone or something but it is all OK now.

Thanks for responding though.

Thanks for the input already, and sorry for dredging up an old thread.

This may seem like a silly question, but what do you guys actually view over VNC?

I'm uning Fermentrack, and when I'm at home and connect with my phone to the pi web server (http://192.168.0.#) I get a nice screen that fits well on my phone. When I remote in with VNC, the only way I can work out to view the dashboard is to open a web window on the pi, and put the http://192... IP address into that.

Is there a better way to view the dashboard on the pi, and is there a way to then see the phone formatted version via VNC (or another tool)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Who knows? :)

Remote access is obviously more functional than just BrewPi or Fermentrack. Some of those tools allow you to tunnel to the Pi using services like ssh and http which is obviously pretty functional. Some people only use the Pi desktop so that's the only way they are familiar with using the different applications - in which case VNC is effective. A solution to use your phone effectively without a lot of hoops does not exist as far as I know.

If I had to do it, I would search for a native app platform framework. That's not an easy lift for most people. A second, far less secure way (but more secure than a straight tunnel) would be to use something like a reverse proxy on a system in a DMZ (most home firewalls allow this). While you technically can run a reverse proxy on the same system, that really defeats the purpose.

The best way to view data remotely is, of course, to push the data to an endpoint on the Internet and visualize it there. That's coming in BrewPi Remix, and I think Fermentrack may do it or he's working on it as well.

..........

I use remote3.it and set up a secure link to my Pi. From there I have 3 different services I can use on that device, http, ssh or VNC. The http to my Fermentrack gives me a nice screen on my cell. The ssh allows me to do updates and maintenance on my Pi easily.

I didn't think you could have a permanent link to a service - that's great if so.
