I've got a few gallon ziplocks of quartered home-grown tomatoes and some odd bags of partially used malt extract, and I've heard that you can make BBQ sauce with malt extract.

I'm trying to look around, but a lot of the recipes I am finding are for marinades or pretty complicated sauces. I'd like something kind of basic that I can tweak later.
 
I don't make sauce from scratch, but use roughly 60/40 commercial BBQ sauce (Masterpiece works well) & either light or amber LME. I'll often spice it up a b it, but that's the general base when I use LME in BBQ sauce.
