Hey everyone, looking for some help. I bought a holiday ale kit from Midwest and decided that maybe I didn't really want 5 gallons of holiday ale. Anyway I can bastardize this into a porter or stout with some tweaks? Kit includes
6 lbs dark lme
3.15 lbs Amber lme
8 oz caramel 60 and 8 oz special b mixed together
1 oz vanguard
1 oz cascade

I'm thinking that mixed grains could throw a wrench into this and lock me into this. I just bottled a APA so I kinda wanted something dark to follow. Thanks in advance

Could substitute your grains with one pound English roasted barley and also substitute two ounces cluster hops for 60 minutes.
If you don't have Beersmith, use the free version of Brewtoad to see how this would fit in the style of a stout.

That's what I was going to say, add a lb of roasted barley and cut down on the current mix of crystal (since there is already going to be some in both the extracts). Like flars said you'll probably need to adjust up the hops to get the bittering right.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll grab one of those programs and plug it in and see

How about Brewers gold? I plug in 2 oz and sub in some roasted barley and it puts it right in the stout range. Was kinda thinking about tossing some vanilla in
