Hello!

This is my first post here, but I have learned a lot lurking over the past few months. Here is a recipe I have created. I would love any feedback I could get. I have been using BrewTarget for recipe creation (because it's free) and I am happy with it! I want to experiment with single hops but not sure how Citra will stand on its own.

Citra IPA- 2 Gallon Extract (Full Boil)

OG: 1.063
FG: 1.016
ABV: 6.1
IBU: 54.2
Color: 8.7

2.75 lbs. Muntons Light DME
6 oz. Briess- Caramel Malt 40L (steeped 15 mins @ 155F)
1 oz. Citra Hop Pellets as follows:
.2 oz 60 min
.2 oz 10 min
.2 oz 5 min
.2 oz 2 min
.2 oz flameout

I am also happy with 2 gallon batches, as its just me. (my wife isn't much of a beer drinker)

:mug:

My first thought is that it could use a dry hop - I'd probably start with an ounce for a 2 gallon batch.

Okay! Another ounce of Citra, or do you have another recommendation that would go well with it?

I'd stick with the citra as a single hop to get all it's flavor goodness in there, and really get a feel for what it lends on its own.

I have got mixed reviews about using a secondary, and haven't heard a really convincing reason to use one at all. As it stands, I plan on just using a primary for this batch. Should I just drop the pellets in the primary after a week or so? And should I put them in a hop bag?

I always just dry hop in primary without a hop bag. Most of the hops debris will sink to the bottom by the time you bottle. I love all citra beers.

Same here. I usually primary for 3-4 weeks, then throw any dry hop pellets straight into the primary for another 5 days or so before bottling. Simple enough. You can always tie/rubber band some sanitized muslin bag over the end of the siphon when transferring to the bottling bucket to pick up any excess debris. I don't bother most of the time without any issues. Worst case, you get a little hop debris in 1 or 2 bottles. Not a deal breaker.

I agree on sticking with Citra. As far as dry hopping goes, I usually just toss the pellets loose into the primary.
