I just had a lady offer me several carboys and a ton of bottles for a pretty good price, and am thinking of taking her up on it. Out of all of the bottles, roughly 50 are swingtop bottles (she described them as the type with the wiring and plug).

My question is: Are these bottles superior than, inferior than, or equal to bottling with traditional, re-cappable bottles? Is there any greater risk of them exploding?

Pro: More convenient to cap, more expesive, less wasteful (I know they only save on cheap caps but every bit counts with me).

Con: unless they are the old amber bottles, they are probably green and need to be stored in the dark; they also probably need seals replaced...but will last a long time

They are typically more sought after and I would love to have some

thanks for all of the input guys.

I saw an older thread on here about growlers exploding. I'll check with this lady to ensure that these are growlers designed for beer before buying them.

Anyone had any experience in growlers exploding or being successful at holding in the carbonation?

Are you talking about Grolsch type beer bottles or a swing top style growler? I am confused by your original posts and some of the posts above.
