I've always wanted to leave near the beach plus not too big a fan of the cold weather. I moved to Fort Collins about a year ago and have enjoyed it, but there are no jobs up here. For what little jobs there are up here, there are a ton of people vying for them. Never spent a lot of time in San Diego, but I did visit once as a kid and remembered really liking it. I know it's crazy expensive there, but this place isn't a whole lot off. Anyway, just would appreciate some chiming in on the matter, either negative or positive.

Absolutely love San Diego, but traffic will be typically southern California! We lived in the South Bay (Chula Vista) for 15 years. When we go back to visit, we stay in North Park, which is nicely central for everything we go back for.

I lived there for 3 years. It is a truly amazing place. The traffic is not NEARLY as bad as LA, although it is definitely not ideal. There are more breweries than you can possibly imagine with more popping up every month. It's really easy to get around to the different areas of the city - a 10 minute high speed burn on the freeway will get you almost anywhere.

The state income tax and cost of living will get you. I moved to Houston so I could afford a house and actually build up some savings and not be broke all the time, but I sure do miss the nice weather, beautiful scenery, lifestyle, etc.

Born and raised in SoCal. Moved away in 1994. I've been back several times to visit, as I still have family there, but there's no way in hell I'd move back to that sh** hole. I'll be the first to admit that there are some very nice parts of California and SD is one of them, but as was stated above, the cost of living is outrageous. It's pretty sad really. The political class has taken what once was a great place to live and turned it into an excellent lesson in bad government.

I've lived in Northern Colorado for just shy of 16 years now. My wife and I talk about moving away some day, since neither one of us envision having to deal with the snow in our old age (we're only in our mid-40s, so it's a ways off), but when we try to come up with alternatives, we always come up empty. The fact is, you will be hard-pressed to find a better place to live than where you live right now.

If you don't mind me asking... what do you do for a living?

As you're aware, IT can be a tough racket around here. Have you looked around Denver/Boulder for work? My wife and I both commute to jobs down south because the pay is so much better.

I did a Cali trip a couple years ago, slowly moving down the coast. Spent a couple days in San Diego (which, as everyone knows, means a whales vagina). I have to say, the things that stick out, and what I remember every time I hear the name now, is 1) the sheer amount of homosexuals (not that there is anything wrong with it, just very disproportional to anywhere else I've been) 2)a lot of homeless people, everywhere. I walked into the main post office down town to mail a post card and the steps and entrance way were like a camp, one guy was literally pissing off to the side of the steps.

Just my impressions anyway, may have just had a poor experience.

I haven't been there in a really long time and would definitely take an extended trip there before pushing towards moving there. I'm sure things have definitely changed since I was there last.
