Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this question but I figure people here would have the most input on the matter...

What are RB bottles trading for? Reason I'm asking is even if the latest release(Hypnotized) isn't the greatest, would it be worth it to pick some up for trading purposes? I've heard that some bottles aren't even trading for cost.

They are solid extras, nothing above that.

Reference: I just swapped 2 map of the sun for 2 madagascar.

Right now it's like Bruery: unless it's amazing, it's more or less $4$

Yeah, the echo series so far has been a bit uneventful. Not bad, but like a less tasty version of what it once was. I won't be picking up any of these bottles

Is it just me or is this thread always so salty?
Not always,

same not a fan of these beers being aged in barrels that held other current beer.

Not really sure how this makes it better, or if it will.

Highland Park Brewing did a similar thing with old Raised Eyebrows barrels and called it Help yourself and it is delicious.

They make a **** ton of their best beers, so that doesn't help tradeability. Their smaller releases like the recent Bordeaux bottles haven't really generated much hype because they aren't particularly special.

What kind of stuff are you looking to trade for it? I have been trading the stuff they made a metric **** ton of: the Map of the stun, Impossible soul and Feed the Monster for the more new stuff coming out of the East Coast, but yeah...been going $4$ on them.

Ironically yes.

People are probably disappointed they aren't doing Sante or De Garde level sours and the stuff that is really great, they make so much of it, it's hard to trade. I think criticisms regarding their conservatism are more valid though.
Their Dubious series does seem to be a bit more experimental, if not terribly enticing sounding. I wonder how any of those beers'd be out of a bottle.

Let's add more salt to the flame (that's the expression, right?)
Just got the notification of the second Ambassador release and it's...another Bordeaux barrel treatment.
Afterlight_Thumbnail.jpg

Afterlight is a dark sour beer aged in French Bordeaux wine barrels. Fermented with Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus, this decadent sour beer presents notes of dark chocolate, dried cherries and vanilla. Dark and alluring, Afterlight entwines flavors of both beer and wine.

Does that mean the next Ambassador release is going to be the red base beer in Bordeaux barrels? I'm still holding out for Map of the Moon, but man this year's releases (Ambassador and non) have been weak.

Haven't picked mine up yet but I thought people liked Quite Something which was also aged in Bordeaux barrels. But yes, also agree that recent releases haven't been that exciting.

Yeah. I'm really crossing my fingers over the hope that the releases this year aren't all just different barrel treatments of their bases. The non club stuff hasn't suggested otherwise.

cool logo i guess

I'm actually really excited about Afterlight. As a big wine lover, I'm interested to see what the French Bordeaux barrels do to the beer.

For all the negativity ITT regarding what they have released this year, I just looked up something and found some interesting results.

Top Rated Rare Barrel beers on Untappd right now:
Hypnotized (Batch Two) - 4.51
Ensorcelled (Batch Two) - 4.50
Home, Sour Home (Batch Two) - 4.45
Quite Something - 4.42
Map of the Moon - 4.41
...
No Salt - 4.22

Now, I'm not saying Untappd is the gospel truth or anything like that. Taste is subjective. But obviously a fair number people think 2 of the 3 beers released so far are among their best work. I recognize that the ratings for Hyp and QS may drop a little as more people around the country try them.

I think a lot of people's issue has been with the same-iness/lack of diversity of the beers, not that they're necessarily bad. There's still page after page of Rare Barrel love in this thread.

This. I will say that for American wilds, they make arguably the most balanced wild beers out there IMO. I haven't had a bottle that was anywhere near enamel stripping. I've always been able to finish a decent sized pour and go for seconds and that's really all I can ask for in an American sour. Curious what others think.
