Personally, Al Gore and his ilk are the biggest detriment the environmental movement has seen in recent decades.

Good Post - It puts one on the defensive right away. I hate the carbon credit BS. Its just a way for somebody to feel better about what they do.

In Iowa they talk to farmers about not disking fields since it raises the carbon level... buy credits so you can do this. What BS.

Go sell crazy to somebody who's buyin'.....

For the record, I have not sent Al Gore any money, nor do I think he is the be all and end all; in fact, I think it's actually become quite a caraciture and I wish he would shut his mouth. I felt strongly about Global Warming long before Al Gore started shoving it in people's faces.

That all said I don't think anyone should be allowed an opinion on the topic without actually doing some research into the topic.

Is that your opinion? I hope you have some scientific data to back this up ;)

If science tells us something, and it can be proven with mathematics and prior research, then it must be true eh?

Science once showed us that based on man's muscular and bone structure, that it was impossible for an athlete to run 4 minute mile, yet it is now commonplace.

I am certain that MANY scientific Theories have been disproven, either by people who were oblivious to science, or scientist with a different outlook.

Science is fantastic, but it isn't aways right, especially since science is dependent on Scientists...who are human and tend to be flawed.

Or, not that this happens, scientists come up with a specific conclusion based on where the grant money/funding comes from.

It's absolutely true that over the course of human history, some scientists have been wrong about some things. But it'd seem strange to conclude from that that we can henceforth safely ignore what scientists tell us. That would be confusing the proposition "Scientists don't know everything" with the proposition "Scientists know nothing".

Bullseye!

Oh no, it's snowing in southern OR right now!:D (it actually is)

It's amazing how people think we can affect "Global Warming" or "Climate Change" when we cannot stop it from raining or make it rain in Australia. We cannot stop Tornadoes or predict with certainty where and when they will appear. We cannot stop floods or hurricanes and we have had no impact on the ozone layer regardless of banning CFCs and making people pay more for refrigerant and hairspray.

It's very humorous that people really think that we can make a difference. Like I mentioned, it's great to conserve and save, but when you give goverment more control over your life on what you can do, how you can live, even how can use your own private property, it does nothing but perpetuate till everything you do must be taxed and controlled by someone who says do as I say, not as I do.

yeah but all this thread really is, is everyone's opinion on the matter. What does that accomplish. I'm all for debate, but debating pure opinion is pointless. No one is going to change anyone's mind.
