Ranco probe + SSB Chronical thermowell

Has anyone figured out how to use these two items together? The probe is too wide to be inserted into the thermowell, which would be the ideal way for me to control fermentation temp in my chamber (7cf chest freezer). Right now I just dangle the probe in the chamber but obviously ambient temp is different and changes slower than temp in the chronical. SSB said to find someone to make the thermowell diameter larger, or buy their FTSs. Any other ideas?
