What's the difference between Wyeast and Activator Wyeast? Is the Activator Wyeast also in smack packs? Thanks!

From what I saw at the HBS the other day the Activator pack is just bigger (contains more yeast cells) and more expensive. If you're making a starter I can't really see any advantage.
