I just realized that I forgot to get a blowoff hose for my IPA I am brewing NOW! I have a 6.5 gallon carboy and I am using a Nottinghams starter. HELP!!!!!

Outside diameter 1 3/8" should work fine for you. Good luck!

Man! Thanks for the fast response. You guys rock! How long do you think it needs to be? I am going to lowes while the wort cools, so if anyone can direct me to a particular product I would appreciate that!

I did the same thing on Saturday night. Realized at the last minute that I would need a blowoff (I just switched from a bucket fermenter to a carboy). Home Depot or Lowes should have what you're looking for!

Just head to plumbing. It's in that area. It should be on huge spools. Just cut to length, or have the old guy in the apron do it for you. You'll know it when you see it.

sorry. I think the kits usually come in a length of 3 feet if I am not mistaken. I got mine at 4 feet.

actually, if you have a 6.5 gallon carboy and it is a 5 gallon batch you do not need a blow-off. I never have used a blow off with a 6.5 unless you are expecting an abnormally large kraeusen which I do not imagine even if it is a big IPA. I think you will be fine with an airlock. Just a thought.

You probably won't need an airlock, but you never know. I was helping a friend with his first batch a while back, an IPA, and the lid blew clean off his 6 gallon pail. With a 6.5 gallon carboy, even if the stopper blows off, it's probably unlikely that the krausen will spill over.

Well, they only had 1 5/8 inch OD tubing, so I bought some. I had to slice the tube and heat it a bit to get it to fit into the opening, and I duct taped it on to keep it airtight. I will switch to an airlock when I get a chance. I also didnt have a spare rubber stopper (its in my glass 5 gallon carboy with my IIPA in it), so I had to have something. My dad's IIPA blew the lid off his 6 gallon bucket last weekend and my wife would have a fit if that happened. Never hurts to keep SWMBO happy!
