Questions on Secondary

i am about to rack my beer to a secondary fermenter for the first time in my "career". a question: i am using a 5 gal. carboy (also a first). does it need a place to ventilate ie. a stopper w/a grommet with an airlock? or can i just plug the whole thing without any ventilation at all?

Yeah, you should put an airlock on it. It may bubble a little after you rack it.

Agree. Airlock it. There will still be yeast suspended in the beer and enough trace amounts of fermentable sugar, that CO2 will continue to be produced.

also, if you seal it up, the co2 that does get released won't be able to push the air out.
