Question on gravities and conversion

I've never tested for conversion. Brewed Jamil's dark mild yesterday and seemed to hit all the gates w/no issues. Gravity readings came out solid, right in line with Beersmith's projections. The hydro sample barely had any sweetness to it though. Now for my question: if your gravity readings are on par with the recipe, have you by definition achieved conversion? Would an unconverted or poorly converted batch still have gravity readings in line with a given recipe?

OK, did a search and found a similar topic. From the discussion it appeared that a hydrometer reading wouldn't necessarily be a firm indicator of conversion, but a refractometer reading probably is. I think, lol

I'm a bit concerned about this dark mild, but I guess time will tell.

A mild generally has an OG of 1.037 or so, so the wort wouldn't taste particularly sweet. Don't worry!
