Hi guys,

I finally made my first upgrade and am going full boil with a 10 gallon Blichmann Boilermaker and Top Tier Burner :rockin:

My question is, Blichmann suggests removing and cleaning the three piece valve before using it, to remove any excess oil, etc. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Ideally, I would like to just install the BrewMometer and get on with it.

What say you? Thanks in advance.

I take my 2-pieces apart every couple of brews and clean them...they can get cruddy. I wouldn't hurt to give it a bath in oxyclean, it only takes a couple minutes.

There are lubricating oils they use in the manufacturing process that they don't really clean out of the internals before shipping those ball valves. You definitely want to clean and sanatize the kettle and valves before your first brew, unless you are going for the classic "Chinese Lube Ale."

Thanks for the note. Didn't think about sanitizing it also. Would you suggest also removing the dip tube and cleaning/sanitizing it before first use? I was thinking that the heat from the boil would take care of the sanitization for me.
