yeah.... I notice alot of ciders have this in their recipies... I happen to be lactose intolerant, so anything cow lactose related makes my tummy hurt....

The lactose added to cider and some times beer, is that any relation at all to the lactose from dairy?
 
Lactose IS milk sugar, so yeah, same stuff. :(

Lactose is added to recipes as a non-fermentable sugar, to add back a bit of sweetness without having to kill the yeast. If you're bottle-conditioning, so you can't kill off the yeast (and you don't want flat cider), you're probably going to be looking at using Splenda or something like that if you want to add in some sweetness.
