With some sales going on I think i'm going to put through a good size ingredient order. What would you say are the ingredients (grain, hops, lme/dme) you always want to have on hand?

Looking for some good input here.

I just ordered two pounds of hops. I will have probably about 2.5 lbs in the freezer now. They are always nice to have on hand and I make my recipes around my inventory.

All Grain?? If so...
50lb sacks of Marris Otter and American 2-row
Carapils for head retention
Rye ( Love the spicyness it gives my IPAs )

As far as hops go check out Farmhouse Brewing Supply they have GREAT prices on 4oz hop packs if you brew frequently or vacuum seal them in 1oz increments
Plus they describe each hop in pretty full detail which is also a huge plus for me

Youll be good for a couple batchs

I do all grain so I always have a 2 row base grain, a couple different lovibond crystals and a little of other specialty grain on hand. I usually buy twice what I need of the specialty grains so that I have extra on hand for spur of the moment recipes.

Earlier in the year I bought 6 different pound bags of hops. I also bought many 4oz packages. I have enough that I can make substitutions for most types.

I also buy my priming sugar in bulk.

This would be extract brewing w specialty grain. Thanks for the suggestions guys! Looking at doing a porter and IPA next.

Looks like someone likes IPAs and has soft water.

You could brew a number of extract beers with that shopping list, including hoppy porters and mild pale ales. The OP did say he was into IPAs as well, so there's that. Also, I personally wouldn't use Crystal 60, Chocolate Malt, Midnight Wheat or Carafa II for my IPAs.

Base malt(s), whichever you like. I stock 2-row and pale ale malt, but I may just switch to 100% PA malt as I like the flavor more (except for pilsners).

Extract if you're PM or brew extract. DME for starters, hops by the pound (hopsshack.com has great prices, I have freezer of 4 or 5 but bittering hops are a must, ie. CTZ)

Dry yeast so if you want to brew a basic ale you don't have to worry about running to LHBS (unless you harvest, which you should).

Really, as long as I have base, hops, yeast...I can brew SOMETHING on a whim no problem. Crystal 40 or 60 is another one, I just ordered 25lbs.

Some good stuff on that farmhouse site. having to change my order at midwest now!

Farmhouse is where I got my hops, they have great prices. I just purchased 8oz of 2012 simcoe, 4 oz centennial, 1 lb cascade, and 8 oz chinook. All for around $40 with shipping

I just put in a hop order there along with a midwest order today. Can't wait to build up the supply.
