Probably a dumb question but is it normal for chugger/march pumps to not have a power switch? You just plug them in for on, unplug them for off?

most folks either plug them into a switched outlet or cut off the plug and wire into any of a number of types of switches. They'll work by just plugging or unplugging...but it is pretty inefficient in your time and will no doubt add lots of wear and tear to your outlet and plug.

What? you have unswitched outlets?
Plug it into a power strip and use the switch on there.

I think "The Clapper" would be the perfect solution.

especially if it isn't priming correctly :0this works pretty well for me, i plug it into an extension cord then i can hold it in my hand and turn the pump off and on as needed

You use a GFI trip and reset as a switch? I wonder how many cycles they are designed for.
i wonder myself, i'll post it up when it fails.

I am surprised that you can't get an off the shelf GFCI cord with the GFCI plugged into the wall and a power switch half way along / at the other end.
