today i started one of Brooklyn BrewShops pumpkin beer mixes. i dont have the recipie for it but it is one of their standard wheat mixes and i was playing around with that brewers friend app and i think i figured it out.

i think it goes
1 lb 2 row
.5 lb wheat
and .5 lb crystal 30

like i said thats what i think it is

i also did one of their pumpkin mixes at the start of october but that one did not contain the whole grain bill which i thought was odd. when i say that i mean the bag was only half full and also the second one had more in the strainer when i did the sparge. not much i can do about it now though

but thats pretty much what ive done sonce my last post. i also did brooklyn brew shops everyday ipa. that one was real good. id definently recommend that one

Even if you're making 1 gallon batches, that's not much grain. I think you might need to do a little more research on brewing or if you have specific questions HBT is a great resource to offer you some help.
http://www.howtobrew.com/ This is also an excellent resource.

Many of those kits that you buy are called "partial mash" kits where you still have to add several pounds of malt extract to achieve a usable wort, and that sounds like what you are describing.

@TheMadKing - Brooklyn Brew Shop mixes are all-grain, 1 gallon mixes. The grain bill for their lighter beers total right about 2 pounds, 2.5 or a little more for their strong and stout ales.

But I definitely agree - this is a great forum is a great resource for learning. Folks here have been a huge help to me. :mug:

My guess is that the first bag was simply short a bit.... :(

Just a quick update on this -

mtbrewer and I sampled a bottle from each batch, and the first one was definitely missing part of the grain bill; I'm not sure how much, but it was considerably lighter in body and in flavor. Having said that, it tasted pretty good.

The second bottle however, was really good. mtbrewer and I both agreed that it was literally like having a mouthful of pumpkin pie, which I happen to be very fond of. There was a nice, creamy head and some good lacing on the glass. I think that with a Bavarian yeast, it might have been just a bit better, but the truth is that it was very fine the way it was. The pumpkin flavor was prominent, with a warm ambience provided by the spices added during the boil. An expert or connoisseur might say that the clove was a little strong, but I found it to be great. The over-all mouthfeel was full-bodied and the finish left me wanting more.

Brooklyn Brew Shop tends to do pretty well when they put their mixes together, and this was no exception. I'm trying to brew up the last few mixes of theirs that I have and concentrate on developing recipes; but to be honest, this is one that I would be happy to buy again.

yeah this one turned out good. i personally thought the clove was a little overpowering but other than that real good. it really was like having a slice of pumpkin pie only in beer form

oh yeah and the second one was definently darker and more flavorful than the first. so i guess the first really was just short some. i really likee brooklyn brew shops products. they put together some real good and interesting stuff
