Setting up my final pieces on my single tier. Chugger pumps with center inlets and screw on tri-clovers. I should use plumbers tape on these correct? If so, how often should I change the tape?

You should use teflon tape on all taper pipe thread connections. If you don't break that connection then you should not have to change the tape. Always clean the old tape off and use new when reassembling the threaded connection.

Remember -- the tape isn't meant to seal the connection, it's there as a lubricant for you to adequately tighten the fittings and get a good tight seal that way -- these are NPT not NPS fittings.
