Propane for Brewing

I've been going to ACE on Gunn Hwy (Citrus Park) - you get a complete fill for $14.99.

I'm going to try this approach to getting my mash water ready. This will save the propane for the boil only.

I paid about $14 for a 20lb refill last Saturday.

Ok I'm going to throw this out there cuz I can't find it anywhere on here ...anyone have any clues to whether you can use a forklift propane tank?? Those tanks look pretty beefy and appears to look like its twice the size, is it the same valve connection??? Could it be modified If not?? Where can u get one???

Do u have a BJ's warehouse club near you? Cost me $12.50 a bottle to fill up.

I'm rather positive its a similar connection type, if not certainly adapters could be found. I know the 5th wheel campers use a (fixed) forklift style propane tank that is usually stored near the landing gear, usually it's 30-40lbs.

U-Haul is my go-to for propane in KC, seems to be the best deal I can find.

Also, check the date on your tank. During my last fill up, the guy pointed out that I have until December to use my tank, because they won't fill up tanks past the expired date. I will have to buy a new one. Apparently they are only good for ten years?

Do a tank exchange with blue rhino or something. They probably can refurb them or test them and extend the life, so you're not completely screwing them over.

I got to coscto (in Canada) , 0.49$/lb fillups

Since here it's around :rockin: -20C(-4)f this morning took me around 10 pounds to mash + batchsparge and the boil. (with my propane burner)

It took like 35 minutes to boil too.

Start heating the wort as you sparge. I wait 'til I have about 2 gallons of wort in the kettle, then I start heating the wort.
