Hi, I have a problem. I have the Brewferm mini kegs and tap. They are 1gallon kegs with the tap that goes on top. The problem is that the beer is not clear. It's been given plenty of time to settle but still pouring cloudy. I have tried 2 different beers and both the same, but both beers that I also bottled some are perfect. I don't know if it's the tap mechanism disturbing the sediment. It's a real concern as I have 9 of these barrels with 3 different style beers in them. Any help would be great

I don't have experience with that set up but I do keg. I have noticed if I have to high a pressure more sediment will come out vs. lower pressure. I don't know how you regulate pressure with your system but I would try to get just enough pressure to push the beer and hopefully the sediment will stay behind. Also try to chill the beer for 24-48 hours before pouring this could help the sediment compact more.

I would agree with the lower pressure. Even being super careful, some yeast is bound to get into the keg. Slow pour the first glass or two with some sediment and the rest (hopefully) should pour clear.

This is so weird. I use the same kegs and I get absolutely crystal clear beer, yet my bottles never get quite as clear.

Why?

So that do you do differently?

Here's what I do.

I sugar carb. I like to chill for a week before tapping when possible. I completely vent before tapping. When I tap I put just enough pressure to make the beer flow, then I shut off the regulator. I continue to do this to keep the foaming down. I find that pressure builds naturally with time. Sometimes it is a little cloudy at first, probably due to the pressure release. Within a few days it is crydstal clear.

I will try to find a pic of a cloudy beer with 1/2 wheat extract that cleared in my mini keg.

What type of yeast did you use? With that rig you might be better off with a highly flocculant strain.

Slow pouring seems to be working as well as in fridge for 2 weeks
