I am currently fermenting my first batch, and as I'm thinking through the bottling process, a question has come to mind. As I understand it, once the fermentation is complete, the yeast will settle at the bottom of the fermenter. Because one is supposed to avoid bottling all of the sediment at the bottom of the fermenter, how does any yeast make it into the bottles in order to carbonate the beer?

It might not be visible, but there's plenty of yeast still in suspension that will get the job done.

Most, but not all of the yeast will drop out of solution. There will still be plenty to carbonate.
