but here it goes anyway. Could someone please explain what is meant by a "manual defrost" freezer? How is this different than an "automatic" defrost freezer?

I'm looking to get a chest freezer for my kegs.

thanks:mug:

An automatic defrost cycle means that the freezer basically shuts it self off long enough to defrost every now and then. A manual defrost means you have to unplug it now and then to defrost it.

Most automatic defrost freezers have the cooling coils separate from the freezer area and blow cold air into the main box. That way, the coils can be heated and defrosted without thawing your food.

Manual defrost the coils are in the main compartment, they may even be attached to the walls, so ice builds up.

Either works fine for a keggerator.
