I accidentally mixed in the priming sugar with the wort just prior to transferring my Irish stout to the first fermentation vessel. It seems to be fermenting just fine. I just moved it after one week from the first vessel (plastic bucket) to the glass carboy. Do I add more priming sugar before bottling?

The yeast should eat it, mite have a higher ABV, could change the taste depending on how much you added.

I would say yes after fermentation you'll need to prime again.

How much priming sugar did you add?

You'll end up with a higher ABV in the finished beer and will have to prime again before bottling. If you didn't boil the sugar before adding it - or add it to the boil during the process you might end up with an infection... Not trying to scare you - but it is a possibility...

If it was the 5oz bag of dextrose kits usually give,it won't effect the ABV too much. And sugar being dry & sealed in a bag,two of the 3 elements molds, etc need to propigate are missing. Namely, air & moisture. You'll need more priming sugar on bottling day.

Who,lil ol' me? :D:confused:
I keep mine sealed in the pantry with the other dry stuff,& for 2 years + no infections, let alone fromm the dry stuff. i'm just careful to understand basic life processes & deal with them accordingly. I think it's part of brewings' scientific side. The two have been shown to increase knwoledge for both science & brewing. Not to mention civilization in general.

Thanks, everyone. Checked with the place I buy my supplies and all answers consistent. Add sugar in bottling day and no big deal!
