Hello Homebrewers,
I am ready to bottle an IPA tomorrow, OG 1.076 FG 1.018
In the past I have used the pre packaged 5 oz. corn sugar (Dextrose?) in bottle bucket for 5 gallons. The results were usually a little too carbonated.
This batch however is 4 gallons...so how much priming sugar should I use? My guess was to use maybe 3 oz., but I don't have a scale. Any suggestions how much to use and how to measure it out? Thanks in advance for your help.

The northern brewer priming sugar calculator says to use about a half cup for that style, so I guess that's what I'll do

Tell Santa that you need a decent accurate small kitchen scale. That will come in handy for hops too.

I'd go with 3.2 to 3.4 ounces (by weight) for the 4 gallon IPA.

Measure your priming sugar. I have always gone with .8 oz per gallon. It has always worked nice. If you want to go crazy, use an online calculator for a specific style recommendation.

I've been extract and partial mash brewing from kits. I haven't yet used the entire package 5oz. of priming sugar. I've been personally happy with the amount of carbonation. However I wish to halt carbonation with sugar and move to using malt instead. I've been reading that the carbonation might have a better mouth feel and I wish to make some changes.
