Once had a airlock pop off shoot the top 4 feet one way in the basement and the plastic bubble part shoot anouther 4 feet in a differnt direction and had beer hit the ceiling.

I have no idea when it happened, so it could have been there for 3-4 days before the wife went to the basement and noticed it.

I put a new airlock on it, but fermentation was over and in the end the beer was infected without a doubt.

So, If you caught it early when it happened you have a good chance since the beer is still putting off c02 and keeping bacteria out of your brew.

At any rate, Let it keep fermenting and stay the course. When its time to move to secondary ( if fruit beer, dry hop, or other additives ) try it...If not secondarying when you are ready to keg or bottle take a taste and go from there..

If i am wrong i am sure i will be corrected.
Best of luck :mug:

Has anyone ever seen the primary lid pop off and spew all over? As soon as I figure out how to post a picture, I will.

Here's the pic of the mini-Chernobyl he was talking about...

nice! I had the airlock blow off the top of my carboy and hit the ceiling like a missile, must have been a geyser of beer for a moment when it happened. The batch turned out great though!

I was doing a Chimay Red clone and it shot the airlock out of my carboy and it made a huge mess. However since it was still fermenting there was CO2 coming off keeping all of the bugs out. It turned out to be the best beer I have brewed.

I say clean it up, get a blow off tube, relax, don't worry, and have a homebrew.

BTW you need to have 25 post before you can post a picture

Nice pic!

Even when you do rig a blow-off tube to your fermenters to prevent this from happening in the future I also recommend you control your temperatures.

Even in Ohio with this heat wave I'm guessing your house is around 74F, while I'm not sure what style your brewing I think those temps are a bit high.

Search for swamp cooler, I got plenty of use out one to control my temps. :mug:

This was my Amarillo IPA last week. I got the lid cleaned, sanitized, and back on the same day it happened, so I am hoping for no infections.
