I have a pail as my primary fermenter. It's got a tiny hole for the airlock. Am I going to be able to attach a suitable blow off on this? I intend to make an Imperial Stout which I hear can get a bit... frisky.

I have a better bottle as my secondary. Should I swap them around for the purposes of this brew?

Use a three piece airlock and get some tubing that fits over the inside piece. I believe it is 3/8" ID tubing that will fit snug over the post in those airlocks. I have used that many times and it works great.

That is what i do with my pail and carboy,no problems yet.

Also if your airlock has that extra cross plastic on the bottom end cut that off as it can clog easily. You want a nice open hole.

Yes, just use the tube over the three piece airlock center tube. And definitely follow grem135's advice on cutting of the cross if its on there. The more open the better.

Thanks guys. This imperial stout kinda scares me, but darn that stuff is good.
