They grow all over the desert here, this summer I'm gonna go out try a couple, find out what they taste like, if it's good, then I'll give it a shot... Lol
Ahh yes. I am east bound and down from ya, quite a bit here too. A guy at the lhbs made some very nice pp wine. Beautiful purple. I have no idea if it tastes any good but at least it looks nice!
They're sweet and sour. Good luck getting ripe ones before the birds do. That's always been my issue with them. Go out in the morning, they're pristine and yellow. Come back in the evening they're all pecked and red. :-(
I believe there is a prickly pear mead recipe near the back of Papazian's Joy of Homebrewing. If I remember correctly, he says that if it is done right, there is nothing better.
