After nurmous attempts to prevent the fermentation from exploding out of my carboys and buckets, the worst one was in my closet and the bung came out and splattered all over my dress cloths, ties and the ceiling, i am trying something new. my last brew this week instead of the 6 gallon carboy I went for the bucket and lid and still have to clean up the blow off and lid today.

so I drilled another hole in the bucket and added another air lock.

Any negative impacts from doing this at least for the 1st couple days?

:rockin:

It might work, but you might actually need to let the yeast flow out of a blow off tube into a pot filled with sanitizer. That's what I do when I make a tripel with wyeast 3787.

I have do that with a only a blow off tube and with a fitting that has both a air lock and a blow off tube and still end up a big mess in the pan and the out of the airlock leaking all over the caroboy , never any issues with the beer just hat the mess.

thanks

HUH?!? next time in better english... use a blowoff tube properly; it'll work

Are you watching your fermentation temps? It seems you're running hot if you've blown off that many times already. I've been able to do three batches so far with relatively well controlled conditions and I've had no problems at all. Even the wheat that I have in now with WYeast 1010 showed no signs of blowoff with temps hanging in the mid 60's the whole time.

A swamp cooler is your friend!

I've said it before. Fermcap is your friend. with with WYeast 3068 or Saison yeasts I never ever have more than a smooth bubble going on with the use of fermcap

I bought a spare lid for my bucket, made the airlock hole bigger, installed a larger grommet, and put in a bigger blow off tube that goes into a 1 gallon cider jug full of star san/water. I did have to replace the tubing once, since krausen was caked inside it beyond cleaning, but I've never cleaned yeast off a wall, clothes, etc. I also use the blue lids that are impossible to get off.

My friend ferments in glass carboys and uses a massive tube that fits tightly into the carboy without the use of a bung. Seems to work well.
