Went to HD this morning for a new Faucet in our kitchen. While looking around I saw they had turkey fryers for $69.00.

I been wanting one so I can get out of the kitchen with my brewing so decided to pick one up. It only comes with a 30QT pot but that will be big enough for now. I get to the register and theres a sign that says "ask how to receive 30.00 off your purchase" so I did. I filled out my credit card application (which I did not have to use for the purchase) and only had to pay 39.00 for the fryer. But wait it gets better, I'm also military so get a 10% military discount (yes they applied it as well) so I walked out paying 32.00 and some change +tax. conditioning my new pot now.

Can't beat that! You'll like it. I have a propane burner that I've used for about 5 years and I won't go back in the house. Much quicker on the burner.

This thing is perfect for 5.5 gal batches. Just did my second AG batch of BM's Centennial Blonde house ale. I was able to boil 6.5 gallons without a problem and ended up with just under 5.5 gallons of Wort. Not bad at all. When I was Conditioning the pot full of water, it took about 45 Minutes to bring it to boil, my water is about 68 degrees out of the tap. I'm happy with it. Going from 9,000 BTU's to 45,000 is nice.

I used a 30 qt pot for over a year. Still use it as a HLT. I added a no-weld thermometer to make it even better.

Turkey fryers are what I recommend to anyone who wants to start home brewing on the cheap. Even when you upgrade you'll probably find yourself using your "old" equipment.

Out of curiosity today I took the 30 qt Pot that came with mine to see how much water it can actually hold, I'm happy to say I can boil 7 gallons in it with 2.5 inches to spare. will be cutting it close for 5.5 gallon batches but I think I can do it. Really the biggest boil over concern is in the first Hop addition.

I don't like to boil more than 6.5 gallons. Basically the upper limit for me are the top handle rivets. Boil overs aren't so much of a concern as the splashing around once the boil really gets rolling.

I still use mine. I'd like to get a bigger one, but dont' want to spend any real $ right now to get one.

I boil right to the top and it's usually ok as long as I use a few drops of Gas-X.

I have done 6 into the fermenter in mine before. The liquid level was right up to the top, though. My recommendation is to use Fermcap-S. It really does wonders to prevent boil-overs.

Son of a b***h!!! You can get military discounts at HD? Why did I not know this??!!

as much crap as ive bought from either of those places (and not used the discount) I could have built my brewrig by now
