I'm starting out with the pre-mixed kits. Do these kits need to be stored in a cool dry place, or do I put just the hops and yeast in the refrigerator? Also, why are the hops packaged in static shield bags? Thanks.

I keep my kits in a cool dry place just as a matter of course... it was recommended to me to do so. The grains come in well sealed bags which make storage easier.

The hop pellets come that way to allow as little light as possible. The potency of the hops degrades in the sun. They will also oxidize, which is why the packs are usually vacuum sealed. I could be wrong on this, but I'm extrapolating what I've read about hops pellets.

Cheers!

I've read that the hop bags are purged of o2 with no2,then sealed. I put the LME on the fridge door, yeast in the butter cubby on said door,& hops in a zip lock bag on the top shelf of the freezer till brew day. All the dry stuff stays in the box,or double bagged on the top shelf of the pantry. Works well so far...
