Sorry but for $70 there are many many far better options with much larger capacities. The ice would melt far to fast to do any good at all.

+1 to everyone...there is not enough volume of ice to bring down the temp of boiling wort. Get yourself some 25 to 50' copper tubing 1/4" to 3/8" diameter like to do a fridge water supply from lowes and some hose fittings and some plastic tubing to slide over the end of the copper. wrap the copper tubing around an old coffee can so that it will fit in your pot. Boom you have a never ending heat sink that actually works.

That is what I did but I also attached plastic tubing to the ends of the copper and attached one end to output end of a cheap pond pump that I have submerged in one of my coolers filled with ice and water. If you stick the discharge tubing of the coil back in the cooler the whole recirculates the water. I live in a hot environment and using this method I can cool about 5 gallons of wort down to 65-80 degrees in about 15-30 minutes depending on how much ice I use. Its kinda of a trade off between buying ice or using a ton of water but the ground water where i live is to warm cool quickly anyway.

Just a suggestion you can always just use the groundwater for the first 5 minutes or so, it will cool it down well since it is boiling, then when you get closer to your groundwater temp switch to the ice bucket might save you some ice. Many people do this with lagers to get there wort cool enough to pitch. Cheers :mug:
