OK, so after 10 days in the primary, I opened up my bucket to find a very thin layer of something on the top of the beer. It kind of looked like an oil spill in the water.. Is this an infection, or simply something I shouldn't worry about? The only reason it caught my eye is because I've never seen anything like that before. When I put the auto-siphon in, it split it down the middle and then I took the pic. The circled section is what is visible in the picture of what I'm talking about:

I've had something like this on one of my meads. It turned out to be harmless. Not sure what it is. Don't worry just yet.

It may even be oil from your hops or residue from your sanitizer.

Could just be sanatizer residue. Take a quick sample, and if it smells and tastes like it's on the right track, you should be fine. Most infections come with distinct smells and off flavors.

OK, took a small sample of the beer and down the hatch it went... hope I don't get cancer.. lol. Anyway, seemed like damn tasty (uncarbed and warm) beer to me :mug:

I'll be keeping a close eye on her in the secondary.. I'll let you know if any really nasty uglies rear their ugly little heads.
